was 16 years old. Working through senior year in High School, and continuing to
work over 40 hours per week throughout college, John started at the bottom and
held almost every position in the company at one point or another. When he
graduated Iona College in 1996 with a Business Administration degree, he took
over the management of Durante Equipment Corp. from his father. During the time
he was managing the company he created a chain of command, doubled revenue and
staff, quadrupled profits, and took it from a very successful mom-and-pop
business into a small corporation. In June of 2000, on behalf of his parents,
John sold Durante Equipment to United Rentals.
In 1998, John started Durante Equities, a real estate firm investing in and managing several million dollar's worth of commercial and residential properties in Westchester. In 2009, John got together with his cousin, Anthony Durante, and fellow 40 under 40 winner Christopher Jones, and opened Durante Rentals in the Bronx, NY. Within a year, despite tough economic times, John and his partners were able to open up a second location in Mount Vernon, NY. In 2012 their third location was opened in Queens, NY and has since become their main hub in the NY Metro area. The fourth location was opened in early 2014 in Elmsford, NY.
